How to Build a Concrete Foundation for a House?

Concrete mix, rebar for reinforcement, wooden planks for formwork, and tools such as shovels, trowels, and leveling instruments are required.

2. Mark and Excavate the Area

Using pegs and string, mark the exact dimensions of the foundation. Once marked, the excavation process begins. This step might seem straightforward, but precision is key. One small error can lead to significant issues down the line.

3. Set Up the Formwork

Formwork serves as a mold for the concrete. Using wooden planks, set up the exact shape and dimensions of your foundation. 4. Place the Reinforcement

Reinforcement, often in the form of steel rebar, is crucial for strength and durability. Lay the rebar within the formwork in a grid pattern, ensuring it’s raised slightly off the ground using rebar chairs. This ensures it sits within the concrete once poured, not at the bottom.

5. Pour the Concrete

This is where the magic happens. Mix the concrete as per the manufacturer’s specifications and pour it into the formwork. Using a trowel, spread the concrete evenly, ensuring it fills all corners and voids. As you pour, use a vibrating tool to remove any air bubbles trapped in the mix.

6. Curing the Foundation

Once poured, the concrete must be kept moist to cure properly. This process can take several days to weeks. Regularly spray the foundation with water to prevent it from drying out too quickly. Proper curing ensures maximum strength and durability.

7. Remove the Formwork

Once the concrete has sufficiently cured, it’s time to remove the formwork. Do this gently to ensure you don’t damage the newly set foundation.
